Scottish Borders Produce Limited

Product Range

Peas ready for harvestingScottish Borders Produce sow in the region of 15 different pea varieties every year. The growers are all situated within the Scottish Borders region and are fully able to exploit the excellent growing conditions to their advantage. The temperature and humidity differences that exist in our local landscape allow SBP to manage the harvesting of the crop with greater precision and so achieve the very best results.

SBP have been producing peas since 1976 and have historically matched the standards of the current market leaders. The majority of the pea crop attains a AA grade classification at the freezing plant. All of the growers farm within a 40-mile radius of the factory and the Scottish Borders is a relatively under- populated area, resulting in a quiet road system that allows the crop to be frozen easily within 150 minutes from the start of harvesting.

The new Eyemouth Freezers Ltd factory has given SBP access to the most advanced pea cleaning facility operating in the UK. Peas are put over water flumes and then colour sorted using the most technologically advanced equipment available. Advanced control systems and full traceability allow a batch of product to be traced back to the field at the touch of a button, and it's growing history and processing history displayed. The factory operation is run to EFSIS standards.

Beans

Scottish Borders Produce sow in the region of 4 broad bean varieties every year and are able to offer a full range to compliment the pea production. The climate of the Scottish Borders is particularly conducive to the production of broad beans. During the growing cycle broad beans can be very susceptible to disease but in the clear climatic conditions of the Scottish Borders beans thrive. This coupled with an undulating landscape allows a growing program to be drawn up and followed throughout the year, thus enabling the bean harvest to be staggered sufficiently so harvesting is carried out in the optimum conditions at a steady, constant pace.

This careful and considered harvesting approach allows us to work very closely alongside Eyemouth Freezers Ltd to gain the best results. Product is frozen immediately and to the most exacting industry standards. (EFSIS Standards).

As with all of the produce that SBP offer the broad beans are subject to fully, audited traceability systems from plough to plate.
