Scottish Borders Produce Limited

Scottish Borders Produce Profile

Scottish Borders Produce is a co-operative of some 35 farmers in the Scottish Borders and adjoining counties of East Lothian and North Northumberland. Scottish Borders Produce is a specialist grower of vining peas and broad beans with an annual production of 6000 to 6500 tonnes. The co-operative was originally formed as Borders and Lothians Growers Ltd in 1976, from a merger of two smaller groups. In 1998 Christian Salvesen PLC closed the freezing plant at Eyemouth which ceased SBP's production in 1999. In the year 2000 SBP established a new vegetable freezing factory in Eyemouth. Eyemouth Freezers Ltd. has been set up as a private company wholly owned by SBP and its members to run this facility. This has enabled SBP to re-establish and move forward into the new millennium.

Throughout the years SBP have established a reputation for producing high quality crops. SBP are unique in the UK as the only growers in total control of their own freezing facility, therefore providing a totally seamless operation. The availability of the new facility has also enabled SBP to involve long - established local growers of carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, swedes, and sprouts into the business. SBP can offer a wide range of locally grown vegetables with a consistently short field to freezer timescale, reliably frozen to the highest standards. Full traceability is designed into the system right through from plough to plate.

The combined purpose of Scottish Borders Produce and Eyemouth Freezers Ltd is to offer customers the very best frozen vegetables with a strong preserved identity derived from a region which is well perceived both in the UK and abroad.
